Hdmi out from laptop to receiver to tv. not showing video. audio fine. need help?

Problem connecting my laptop to my tv via my yamaha rx-v467 receiver. I am connecting my laptop to my tv VIA my yamaha receiver. The hdmi cable goes from the laptop to the receiver and then from the receiver to my TV (exact same way my dvd player is set up). Audo goes through fine. video doesn't go through. If i turn my tv off and then on again, i see the vid for half a second and then it goes away. When i plug the hdmi cable directly from the laptop to the tv it works fine. has anyone else experienced this? any solutions? i am running a resolution of 1920x1080 60hz on my laptop and my tv excepts 1080p (so no problem there).
