Introduction to lord of the flies essay help!?
Man's inherent evil - When society has been taken away, all the boys (with the exception of Simon, Piggy, Ralph, and Samneric) turn "evil." The Lord of the Flies represents this evil (The Lord of the Flies is a reference to the Beelzebub, one of the seven princes of Hell). Keep in mind that Golding chose a bloody rotting pig's head on a stick to represent this inherent evil. The conch can be used as a symbol of structure and society as when it's destroyed (along with Piggy, another symbol of structure, society, and orderliness) "all h*ll breaks loose," for lack of a better saying. :) I guess you could use light and dark (?) as imagery but, again, I suggest using Piggy's death as an example of imagery as it's one of the more prominent examples of imagery, which accentuates the fact that Golding stressed the evil in the book. Also there's some inherent evil at the very end with the Naval soldier, who completely ignores the fact that the "British schoolboys" burned down an island and killed two of their own. The evil in this part is ignorance.
