I loved Full Metal Alchemist but hated Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Any recommendations for a new anime?

I loved the serious and thought provoking tone of the fist FMA series. It was well written and drawn, and even though I thought it ended really horribly i still liked it way better than FMA: Brotherhood. I hate the animes that are based around action and have no plot. So I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for me. No kid shows please. Not that it matters that its for kids, they just usually have no plot and no characterization. Thanks!!!!!
